CRI Progress Update

  • Mac McClinton reported that:
    • the fuel tank and the fuel lines will be removed tomorrow (18 Jan). The location of this underground tank has held up the construction of the electrical duct bank, the electrical manhole and the relocation of the infectious waste trailer.
    • the infectious waste trailer will be moved to other side of the building for a few days so that a tractor can remove the fuel tank. Eventually the infectious waste trailer will be located at the temporary loading dock.
    • progress on the temporary loading dock is going well.
    • the switch from the B electrical feed to A electrical feed and the removal of the asbestos pipe underneath was successful. Structurally the B feed is bridging over for now but represents a hazardous impediment to the construction of the electrical tunnel. It has been decided by the contractor and the p-plant that now is the best time to rework the electrical feed. The wiring is quite old and will therefore be replaced entirely from the Bee Street Substation to the electrical tunnel. They will upgrade the capacity and the size of the wire and a new feeder will be relocated from the manhole to the building.

Other Info

  • In order to access the Radioactive Waste Building one must travel over the construction site. We would like to build a ramp over the steps at the northeast entry near the construction trailer so that one could go straight out into the Radioactive Waste Building. Maps will be circulated to show route.
  • The pile-driving schedule is going to be pushed up a bit to 29 January. We will be driving piles on the far side of the project for several full days. Complaints about the noise, thus far, have been minimal. Only when the piles were being driven right next to the building were there any comments at all.
  • Beth Gladden asked about hooks and a platform that were installed in 224A as part of a project sometime ago. She would like to have them removed if possible. Mac will look into this.
  • Beth also asked Jack Buchanan about uncapped pipes and broken glass lines in the ceiling of 224, 225 that are resulting in fumes into the area.
  • East Air handler will be down for about 5 hours this Friday night (18 January) in order to replace the plywood on the outside of the building with louvers.
  • On 29 January there will be a crane in the President's parking lot to put the sound attenuation package on the west end exhaust-- also to complete some fireproofing in the area. This sound attenuation work should satisfy the Graduation Committee members who were concerned about the sound level from this exhaust fan toward the area used for graduation.
  • Beth Gladden asked Jack Buchanan what he wanted to do with the alcohol burners and the propane tanks that were issued to the labs. Jack said he would have one of his men collect them and store them for future use.
  • Ed Krug mentioned that Hank Harrison and Dan were very helpful in off loading the centrifuge and delivering it to the building.
  • Mac reported that Pharmacology's second mass spec had arrived and been delivered to the third floor.
  • The filter medium for the 2nd floor has been ordered from a company in Columbia and delivery is expected very soon. These filters will be installed as soon as they arrive. Dave Dement also would like to install filters on the air supplies in the 2nd floor lab.
  • BSB207 does not have ductwork to supply either heat or air to Dr. Pandy's office. Jack Buchanan agreed to investigate this oversight.
  • Ed Krug asked if there were any plans to increase security in BSB. Beth Gladden expressed concern about the security system on certain doors on the 2nd floor because it is easily bypassed. Beth asked about the northwest back door being locked. She was under the impression that this door would be open now that the area outside no longer represented a hazardous construction site. Leslie Kendall said she thought this was part of the upcoming security measures for BSB and was to be locked down permanently. Leslie Kendall agreed to follow up on all of these safety issues with Dr. Raymond and Public Safety.
