CRI Project
Update/BSB Occupant's Meeting Infrastructure- The mechanical room expansion will be quite an expansion! The building will have a footprint of 60 feet X 60 feet and will be 75 feet high. The architects will be Schmitt, Sampson, & Walker. The engineers will be Meca on mechanical, Guy White& Assoc. on the electrical and Gene King Assoc. on the structural. The building plans will be presented to the BAR on 3/22/02. Having the MRE on line as needed for CRI will be a bureaucratic and scheduling miracle. Air Balancing- All dampers and valves need to be replaced. The old valves are being replaced with modern Phoenix valves. These new valves have been placed in 12 locations in the west half of the building, which will allow the airflow to be balanced. This has been very costly and difficult because of the asbestos through out the BSB. The cost for this work is now above $150,000. Air Quality- Dave reported to the group that the new air handler is handling about half the volume of air that it could. The odor and particulate matter are the main problems that Dave has been trying to resolve. He has put blanket filters in front of the prefilters. He has also put carbon filters in front of the box filters. The filters and media will continue to be cleaned, monitored and changed as needed. Dave has ordered some higher weight filter material that will be more restrictive. These filters will be installed as soon as they arrive. Dave Dement will continue to work with the individual labs as well as the construction site to improve on this problem. Hank Harrison is also watching the construction site to make sure that the exhaust from the machinery is turned away from building. Security Update- Leslie Kendall said she had talked with Bob Waite of Public Safety. Bob Waite and Leslie Kendall would like to meet with some of the BSB occupants to get input on this issue. She is going to set up meetings with representatives from each department to discuss their individual department's concerns on BSB security. Radioactive Waste Disposal- The company that disposes of our waste, Incindere, has been closed by DHEC for some violations. Occupational Safety and Health has contracted with another company to dispose of waste but they will only take boxed waste. So, OSH is boxing all newly created waste and the waste that is already on hand through out campus. This has been difficult for OSH. Jack Buchanan said he would call OSH to find out what the procedure is because he feels that the communication between the occupants, housekeeping, and OSH has been poor. Children's Hospital Outage - This was rescheduled for the night of 2/22/02 with a backup of 2/23/02 to perform the switchover that will allow the CRI duct bank to be relocated thus permitting pile driving to proceed. This delay caused the critical path to slip by 9 days. Pile driving - Will continue for the next 7-8 weeks. 10 are completely down. Hank hopes to have 25 in the ground this week. Occupants report that they can feel vibrations from the pile driving but understand the necessity. Fumes are still occasionally noticeable but again the occupants are extremely understanding in that we are doing all we can to remedy the situation and that pile driving is a critical part of the process. Thanks!!! Attendees: Mac McClinton, Leslie Kendall, Laura Walters, Cliff Harvey, Jerry Ondo, David O.Schwart, Dave Dement, Hank Harrison. |
