Pile Driving -- Our pile driving efforts improved greatly this week. 38 piles were driven in 4 days. A shut down is scheduled for 3/15/02 to install a flexible exhaust pipe on the pile driver that will divert the diesel fumes up and away from the air intake. Next week the pile driver will be moved to the northwest corner away from the building---this should help with the fumes also. Dr Swindle reported that the pile driving does not seem to be affecting the animals on his floors.

Fume control status - New, heavier filters are being ordered for the air intakes. The new filters weigh 34 pounds and contain 29 lbs of carbon each. The filter life varies from 6 months to 2 years depending on air contaminant concentration. It is hoped that, these filters will be more effective. Dr. Schwartz reported that there is still a problem with fumes in his lab. Mac McClinton suggested changing the filters in his lab to the heavier filters but was unsure of their effect on temp control because they are so thick.

Ladies Restrooms - The renovation of the restrooms on 2, 6 and 7 will not begin before March 2003. The pace of the construction project has been affected by some delays with the mechanical room expansion and it is no longer necessary to rush the restroom renovations.

751 days and counting!
