In preparation for the eventual breakthrough at every floor of BSB, restroom asbestos abatement and renovation has begun. Through the end of June these activities will be performed per the following schedule:

Sheet piling is in progress for the utilities tunnel. Dr. David Schwartz reported that in his lab the occupants have felt vibrations from the work being done. H-pile driving has been completed. Excavating and forming the foundation is proceeding. Concrete is being poured May 1, 2002.

The northwest back door of BSB will be closed to pedestrian traffic for the duration of the construction. The back doors may be used for deliveries and services only.

Adrianne McLain from Occupational Safety and Health reported on the current status of the Infectious Waste Disposal program. It is operating under a temporary contract until a permanent solution is resolved. She would like to help make the program more efficient and needs input from the BSB occupants. Scott Reid suggested that Adrianne attend the lab managers' meeting that is held each month on the 2nd Thursday. Beth Gladden is going to send her a list of all department and lab managers.

Jack Buchanan is initiating a weekly BSB elevator inspection program. Occupants can assist by reporting any problems they encounter with the elevators to 2-4119.
