Project Update/BSB Occupants’ Meeting Next meeting: June 12, 2003, 1:00 p.m., BSB 120 MRE- Installation of the structural steel framing is underway. The fuel tank has been installed and the temporary piping is in place for the BSB generators. There are about 20,000 gallons of fuel in the tank to support the emergency generators. CRI- The structure is complete. The mechanical equipment has been set on the roof, including the air handlers, the chillers and the animal floor boiler. The rough-ins are in progress— ductwork, piping and electrical conduit. Change orders for the upfit of floors 3,4,5, and 6 have been sent to the state engineer for approval. The masonry walls for the 7th level are in progress. The steel structure for the lobby stairs is complete. The jack hammering to remove the floor tile has been very disruptive, however, Hank has agreed to work from 0700-0900 weekdays and all day on weekends to complete the job. Once removal of the tile is complete, the noise in the lobby area will be minimal. Remaining (potentially noisy) tasks include pouring concrete floors, installing metal studs with an air gun and minor drilling. The hole in the 2nd floor for the stairs has to be widened but this work will be performed on the weekend as well. Elevators- The cabs on the east side elevators have been upgraded and will soon be placed in service. The regional manager of KONE A met with several of us to discuss the persistent problems with the newly renovated elevators. After this meeting, we feel certain these issues will receive top priority from Kone A. Please continue to call 792-4119 to report problems with elevators. Problems called into the Help Desk are recorded and dispatched to the appropriate repairman. It has been brought to our attention that the construction workers are using the fourth floor break room and restrooms. The increase in the number of folks using these areas and the mud and dirt that are being tracked in have become problematic. We have asked Hank to ask his workmen to please use the facilities provided on the construction site and not to use the student and occupant facilities. The 5th floor men’s room on the SE side of BSB will be renovated into a women’s room. Facilities for the two genders are not equal or even comparable in numbers, so we are making this change in response to numerous requests from people on the 4th and 5th floors.
Steve Kincaid will pick up the rest of the on campus buildings: Colcock, Waring Library, Dental Annex, St. Luke's Chapel, Wickliffe House, 176 Ashley, Macaulay Museum, Vince Moseley building, 30 Bee, 26 Bee, 176A & B Ashley Apt. House, and 18 Bee St. Chuck Hester will cover the off campus properties. Attendees- Mac McClinton, Leslie Kendall, Laura Walters, Larry Wells, Curtis Wise, Beth Gladden, Dwayne McMillan, Bud Cooper |
