CRI Project Update/BSB Occupants' Meeting
August 8, 2002 BSB 120
Next meeting: August 22, 2002, 1:30 p.m., BSB120

Special Note: Mr. Tanis Manseau, Director of Facilities Operation, is serving as the BSB Building Engineering until a replacement can be hired. Tanis was at our meeting this week to answer questions regarding the procedures for reporting malfunctions and requesting work in BSB. This procedure has not changed other than you now report your major problems or work orders to Tanis 792-2725. Please still use the help desk 2-4119 to report all minor problems.

BSB Infrastructure: The mechanical room expansion has received total approval by the BAR. The contract documents are scheduled to be completed by August 15, 2002.

A coordination meeting will be held August 13,2002 to consider the interfacing of the mechanical room with the following; completion of the utilities tunnel, the civil and landscaping aspects of the project and changes to the CRI that might be needed to enhance the accomplishment of the MRE. The upgrade to the size of the fire pump in the CRI which is needed for the sprinkler system in the mechanical room will be contemplated at this meeting also. Our goal is to start this work to the MRE by October 15, 2002. This is another full-blown project. The mechanical room will be as tall as an eight-story building and will involve construction activities very similar to the CRI project. Construction to the MRE and CRI will impact both sides of the approach to the BSB service entrance. Changes will need to be made so that deliveries, services and circulation may continue to the BSB building.

Note: Engineers from Buford Goff Associates will be on site August 8, 2002 to inspect above the ceilings on floors 4&5 to determine the problem and arrive at a solution for the condensation being experienced on these floors.

CRI: The tunnel placement was completed July 15, 2002. Some waterproofing and backfilling remains to be done. The foundation work is about 85% completed and is ongoing. The precast slab work is scheduled to start around October 3, 2002 and the structural steel placement is to start around October 29, 2002.

Lobby: The asbestos abatement in the lobby could start as early as November 2002 because of the improvement in the overall construction schedule, which is good news, but will be very disrupting to access and work in BSB. We will do all that we can to keep you informed of the schedule and minimize its impact on your daily life.

More Asbestos Abatement: The 3rd floor hallway abatement is scheduled to be abated on the weekends of August 17, 2002 and August 24, 2002. The second floor restroom will be abated August 19, 2002.

Attendees: Dr. Swindle, Laura Walters, Leslie Kendall, Scott Reid, Cliff Harvey, Hank Harrison, Dwayne McMillan, Ed Krug, Kylie Martin, Tanis Manseau, Peggy Schachte, Mac McClinton
